What is ITIL?

ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library®), is the most widely adopted set of best IT management practice in the world. ITIL is a practical framework which provides guidance and processes on how to manage the infrastructure of IT and has been successfully adopted in multiple organisations globally.

ITIL defines the organisational structure and skill requirements of for the IT operation and documents a set of operational management procedures to assist management of an IT operation and infrastructure to deliver business-focused services. Importantly, the operational procedures are supplier-independent and technology-neutral.

ITIL 2011 Updates

ITIL is based around a set of 5 core titles (known as the ITIL Lifecycle Publication Suite) which have been updated in July 2011 and authored by the Cabinet Office (then named OGC). The 5 core titles are:

The Stationary Office (TSO) has made the above five core titles of ITIL easier to read and understand. The five core titles also called ITIL Lifecycle Publication Suite which is designed to provide a professional approach to the management of IT service, resolving errors or inconsistencies in the content.
